Celebrate the French Revolution and Bastille Day on July 14 with a French Garden Party with some simple French alfresco foods: a French baguette, a fresh green salad, and shrimp on the barbecue. Make the meal authentic with a pot of beans and vegetables simmered slow on the grill in an Emile Henry Flame-Top pot.

Bastille Day is the French national holiday that commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution and the storming of the Bastille. Celebrated in France in much the same way that Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 4th.

Flame-Top cookware is made of a flameproof ceramic. It is designed to go directly on a heat source; gas flame, an electric or halogen stove, even a barbecue grill. Flame-Top cookware is much lighter, 30%, than comparable metal cookware and yet it is a heavy duty, durable workhorse. It is microwave and dishwasher-safe where metal cookware is not. Its’ surface cleans up easily and it is so durable that a cook can cut directly in the cookware – even with an electric knife without fear of scratching, chipping or cracking the surface. Flame-Top goes under the broiler and directly from a freezer or refrigerator into a hot oven.

Take summer entertaining by storm with this French cookware.
The mortar & pestle has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years as the tool of choice to crush spices and herbs. Emile Henry presents a new mortar & pestle designed to extract the flavor and oils from spices such as fennel, cumin and cloves while offering the classic beauty of French styling. The shape of the mortar, the bowl, is designed so cooks can comfortably press and crush spices in the kitchen or at the table. The bowl of the Emile Henry mortar is 5.5-inches in diameter giving plenty of room for grinding and crushing spices, herbs and garlic. The mortar is well-balanced and deep offering leverage and stability. The unglazed ceramic interior offers the friction needed to properly grind spices.

The exterior is glazed in the Mediterranean colors of citron, cerise, vert, azure, as well as blanc. Made in the same way as the famous Emile Henry ovenware, the mortar withstands the rigors of kitchen use without chipping or cracking. The workhorse of the mortar is accompanied by a 7inch wood and ceramic pestle that sits comfortably and securely in the hand while crushing and grinding.
Simplicity is the soul of elegance, the basic lines of the mortar & pestle lends timeless French style to this old-world cook’s tool. The mortar & pestle subtly features the Emile Henry logo on the exterior and the potter’s signature stamp on the bottom. Like all Emile Henry products, the Mortar & Pestle carries a three-year guarantee. Emile Henry, located in the Burgundy town of Marcigny, is presently run by Jacques Henry, a fifth-generation descendant of the founder. A team of potters makes each mortar by hand, maintaining the traditional high quality that cooks, the world over, have come to expect of Emile Henry. The mortar & pestle retails for $35.

Go Green — Switch from Metal with Nonstick Coatings to Natural Clay

Emile Henry Cookware, Bakeware, Dinnerware Made of All Natural Ingredients.

Marcigny, France – May 2008 — Emile Henry stewpots, bakeware and dinnerware are made from all natural ingredients from the earth. The slip, or Burgundian clay mixture, is made from clay which has decomposed from rock within the earth’s crust for millions of years. The clay is removed from the hills of Marcigny and surrounding towns and combined with other natural raw materials like quartz and water to make the cookware, bakeware and dinnerware. The glazes are also made from natural ingredients, glass and metals. There are no chemical additives.

Emile Henry cookware, bakeware and dinnerware are made in France by a family owned and operated factory and each product is guaranteed safe for the life of the product. There is no interior coating that can peel off or leak out. Consumers don’t have to worry about products being recalled. Metal cookware and bakeware, on the other hand, is frequently coated with chemical nonstick coatings that could eventually peel or chip off.

Emile Henry products are made in an environmentally friendly factory where all packaging is recyclable and made from recycled materials. Pallets, paper bags and cartons are recycled through paper factories. After the useful life of a plaster mold is finished and any damaged or discarded pieces during the manufacturing processes are recycled through cement factories that then use the powdered plaster in their cement mixes. All water that is used for finishing and deglazing is recycled through the factory. None of the water leaves the various facilities. And the carbon oxide and gases that escape from the kilns are filtered so that no noxious or unhealthy gas escapes into the environment. According to Jacques Henry, President & Owner of Emile Henry, “It’s important to work hard to preserve nature and control our impact on the environment”.

The New Urban Collection from Emile Henry

New Castle, DE – February 2008 — The soothing colors of the French impressionist landscape paintings have inspired artists and designers for generations. These soft, natural tones are now the inspiration for a chic new collection of Emile Henry table and ovenware called the Urban Colors Collection . The thirteen new table and ovenware pieces, in Slate, Sand, Sky, and Figue incorporate some of Emile Henry’s existing styles along with smart, hip shapes.

The Urban Collection blends sophisticated designs with the soft and earthy color palette of the great impressionist painters. Sand is soothing, Slate is cool, Sky is gentle and Figue serene. The natural, eco-friendly clay and the gentle tones define this new French collection.

“The Urban Collection gives a modern French twist to dining and entertaining,” explains Tara Steffen, national sales manager for Emile Henry. “The understated elegance combined with the traditional Emile Henry manufacturing has created a beautiful collection which will surely become a modern classic.”

Like the traditional Emile Henry table and ovenware, the Urban Collection is made in the heartland of France, home to prized Burgundy wines, fine rustic French cooking and the excellent properties of clay that Emile Henry has been using for over a century and a half to make its famous cookware. Burgundy clay is known for its superb heat diffusion and retention – two characteristics that ensure culinary success. Emile Henry pottery transmits an even, steady heat, and retains it sufficiently to keep foods hot longer at the table. A dish can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated or frozen, placed directly into a preheated oven or in the microwave, and served right at the table. Emile Henry products are not only strong enough to withstand the abrupt temperature changes of freezer-to-oven cooking, but are also beautiful enough to join the dinner party, now an urban dinner party.

Emile Henry, located in the Burgundy town of Marcigny, is presently run by Jacques Henry, a fifth-generation descendant of the founder. A team of potters makes each piece by hand, maintaining the traditional high quality that French cooks have come to trust in Emile Henry poterie culinaire. The Urban Collection ranges in retail price from $7 to $60. For more information, call 302-326-4800.
