Celebrate the French Revolution and Bastille Day on July 14 with a French Garden Party with some simple French alfresco foods: a French baguette, a fresh green salad, and shrimp on the barbecue. Make the meal authentic with a pot of beans and vegetables simmered slow on the grill in an Emile Henry Flame-Top pot.

Bastille Day is the French national holiday that commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution and the storming of the Bastille. Celebrated in France in much the same way that Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 4th.

Flame-Top cookware is made of a flameproof ceramic. It is designed to go directly on a heat source; gas flame, an electric or halogen stove, even a barbecue grill. Flame-Top cookware is much lighter, 30%, than comparable metal cookware and yet it is a heavy duty, durable workhorse. It is microwave and dishwasher-safe where metal cookware is not. Its’ surface cleans up easily and it is so durable that a cook can cut directly in the cookware – even with an electric knife without fear of scratching, chipping or cracking the surface. Flame-Top goes under the broiler and directly from a freezer or refrigerator into a hot oven.

Take summer entertaining by storm with this French cookware. To find out more about Flame-Top watch our Flame-Top Cookware video with Jacques Henry, President of Emile Henry.

By stealing some elements from the chemist’s periodic chart, Emile Henry has created a ceramic cookware that sits on a grill over hot flames, coals or wood. The Emile Henry Flame-Top stewpot is the perfect bean pot or chili pot. Made from all natural Burgundy Clay, Flame-Top’s gently and even cooking is ideal for preparing baked beans, sauces, soups, macaroni and cheese, even cornbread, on the grill. With the Flame-Top, there is no need to turn on the stove when the grill is fired up. Unlike metal cookware, the flame-top pot can sit on a very hot open flame, empty, for an extended period of time and it won’t crack, discolor or break.

Enhancing the gentle cooking properties of the clay, the raised dots on the underneath side of the lid distribute evaporated juices directly back into the cooking food. This self-basting technique produces a more thoroughly cooked, tender and moist dish than with traditional lids, which force liquids to run down the sides of the pot, and which contribute to uneven cooking. The pots are light enough so that they can be carried comfortably from the grill to the table even when full of food. The lug handles are easy to grasp, even when using BBQ mitts.

The pot is dishwasher safe and can be cleaned with soap and water, no scrubbing needed even when baked beans caramelize on the lip of the pot. Easy to use, easy to clean, a must-have for the grill master in the family.

Greensboro, NC (May 2010) – The Extra Ingredient, a Greensboro, NC kitchen store, coordinated efforts to stock the teaching kitchen of the new Edible Schoolyard that opened at the Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) on May 22, 2010. The Edible Schoolyard at GCM is the first of its kind at a museum in the country and the fourth official affiliate of the program created by Alice Waters and The Chez Panisse Foundation.

An individual baking dish slides into the oven next to a larger baking dish, it is sized just right for an individual casserole or a macaroni and cheese or a side of roasted veggies or baked pasta or a fruit crumble. The new 8inch x 5inch individual rectangular baker, 16oz capacity, is a sensational dinner plate presentation. The new individual baker from the Emile Henry Urban collection features unique curves that will turn heads and raise expectations at any dinner party. The shape is updated and a little trendy, the colors are soft and sophisticated.

The colors for the new individual rectangular baker are fashionable and young: Slate, Sand, Sky, and Figue and Nougat. Sand is soothing, Slate is cool, Sky is gentle, Figue serene, Nougat is creamy and warm. The natural, eco-friendly clay, the update shapes and the gentle tones define this new French collection.

Like the traditional Emile Henry table and ovenware, the Urban Collection is made in the heartland of France, home to prized Burgundy wines, fine rustic French cooking and the excellent properties of clay that Emile Henry has been using for over a century and a half to make its famous cookware. Burgundy clay is known for its superb heat diffusion and retention. Emile Henry pottery transmits an even, steady heat, and retains it sufficiently to keep foods hot longer at the table. A dish can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated or frozen, placed directly into a preheated oven or in the microwave, and served right at the table. The baker?s carry a three-year guarantee.

The all-natural Flame-Top cookware is made of a flameproof ceramic designed to go directly on a heat source: gas flame, electric, halogen, even a barbecue grill. It cleans up easily, requiring very little effort. Because the cookware is ceramic, it is lighter weight, microwave and dishwasher safe and naturally nonstick. Flame-Top can be used under the broiler and be removed directly from a freezer or refrigerator and placed into a hot oven. Emile Henry Flame-Top cookware carries a three-year guarantee. Emile Henry is located in the Burgundy town of Marcigny.

The Arthritis Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organization that supports the more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions. The Arthritis Foundation is the largest private, not-for-profit contributor to arthritis research in the world, funding more than $380 million in research grants since 1948. The foundation helps people take control of arthritis by providing public health education; pursuing public policy and legislation; and conducting evidence-based programs to improve the quality of life for those living with arthritis.

All water that is used for finishing and deglazing is recycled through the factory. None of the water leaves the various facilities. And the carbon oxide and gases that escape from the kilns are filtered so that no noxious or unhealthy gas escapes into the environment. According to Jacques Henry, President & Owner of Emile Henry, “It’s important to work hard to preserve nature and control our impact on the environment”.

These stacking dishes are glazed in the serene and sophisticated colors of sand, slate, figue and nougat and are designed to best bake and serve a decadent creamy crème brûlée and to double for food prep and side dish serving.

Although crème brûlée or “burnt cream” is one of the most elegant, popular desserts in cosmopolitan restaurants all over the world, the ingredients are simple and the dish unpretentious. The new Emile Henry 4.7-inch wide crème brûlée dish, is shallow so every bite offers a taste of the sensuous custard along with a taste of the sugar glaze. Deeper, narrower dishes don’t offer that perfect balance.

Like all Emile Henry ovenware, this dish is made from Burgundy clay which provides even and thorough heat distribution delivering fantastic results to all cooks whether a seasoned French chef or a first timer at making crème brûlée. This lovely dish is available in the sophisticated urban colors: sand, slate, figue and nougat. Sand is soothing, Slate is cool, Figue is serene and Nougat is warm and creamy. The dish in the Emile Henry Urban Collection retails for $10. The Emile Henry crème brûlée dish is oven, broiler, torch and dishwasher safe and carries a three-year guarantee.

The mortar & pestle has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years as the tool of choice to crush spices and herbs. Emile Henry presents a new mortar & pestle designed to extract the flavor and oils from spices such as fennel, cumin and cloves while offering the classic beauty of French styling. The shape of the mortar, the bowl, is designed so cooks can comfortably press and crush spices in the kitchen or at the table. The bowl of the Emile Henry mortar is 5.5-inches in diameter giving plenty of room for grinding and crushing spices, herbs and garlic. The mortar is well-balanced and deep offering leverage and stability. The unglazed ceramic interior offers the friction needed to properly grind spices.

The exterior is glazed in the Mediterranean colors of citron, cerise, vert, azure, as well as blanc. Made in the same way as the famous Emile Henry ovenware, the mortar withstands the rigors of kitchen use without chipping or cracking. The workhorse of the mortar is accompanied by a 7inch wood and ceramic pestle that sits comfortably and securely in the hand while crushing and grinding.
Simplicity is the soul of elegance, the basic lines of the mortar & pestle lends timeless French style to this old-world cook’s tool. The mortar & pestle subtly features the Emile Henry logo on the exterior and the potter’s signature stamp on the bottom. Like all Emile Henry products, the Mortar & Pestle carries a three-year guarantee. Emile Henry, located in the Burgundy town of Marcigny, is presently run by Jacques Henry, a fifth-generation descendant of the founder. A team of potters makes each mortar by hand, maintaining the traditional high quality that cooks, the world over, have come to expect of Emile Henry. The mortar & pestle retails for $35.
